Doc Watson Hospitalized in Critical Condition

Image634735594381180184More bluegrass  news coming out of North Carolina this week but not the kind we want to report.

Several of the state’s print journals are reporting that seven time Grammy winning guitarist Doc Watson has been hospitalize after a fall at his home in Deep Gap, NC earlier this week.

Doc is hospitalized at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC where hospital personnel have stated that he is in critical condition today.

According to his daughter, Nancy, the fall occurred on Monday but no bones were broken.  Doc just recently celebrated his 89th birthday ( March 3rd).

Doc’s Grammy accumulation also includes the “Lifetime Achievement Award which is presented to "performers who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording, which he earned in 2004.

Doc  Watson began his career with a ten dollar Stella Guitar which he bought with money he earned from chopping down dead trees on his family’s property.   A former electric guitar plays,  he began playing exclusively acoustic music in 1960.
