The International Bluegrass Music Museum has launched a public fundraising campaign in hopes of raising three million dollars in the course of just one year.

The International Bluegrass Music Museum is the world's only facility dedicated to the history and preservation of the international history of bluegrass music.

The museum needs help to make the planned new International Bluegrass Music Museum a reality.

With large exhibition areas, an outdoor amphitheater for concerts, a restaurant and cafe, and much more, the new International Bluegrass Music Museum will be the crown jewel in one of music's biggest traditions.

And YOU can be a part of it!

The museum’s proposal calls for turning an old state office building in western Kentucky into a center that will include a museum, an indoor theater and outdoor festival seating.

Museum spokesperson Terry Woodward said organizers want to offer fans a Bluegrass Opry, something akin to the Grand Old Opry in Nashville, Tenn.

A major fundraising drive kicked off last August with an overall goal of $7 million.  Woodward said the drive has received pledges from large private donors for $2.6 million and expects to reach their $7 million goal in a progress update given to media and officials in the city of Owensboro, Kentucky.

The center would be located four blocks from the current museum. The City of Owensboro has pledged $3 million to the proposed new center, provided that the museum can raise the additional $7 million needed for the renovation.

According to an on-line news release, museum director Gabriella Gray says the museum is already nearing $6 million in funds raised to date.
