The Association of Bluegrass Disc Jockeys have been busy compiling a list of bluegrass covers of George Jones’ songs in preparation for a day of remembrance for the recently deceased Country singer.
Funeral services for Jones will be Thursday in Nashville but thanks to on-line streaming broadcasts, anticipated viewers will number in the millions.
Radio too won’t be left out of the mix of media feeding the services to the world. Both SiriusXM (Willies Roadhouse channel) and WSM Nashville have announced plans to broadcast the service. Both are also available on-line.
It is expected that both before and after the services, the airwaves will be filled with George’s recordings and cover versions in a multitude of genres.
For bluegrass radio, the Association of Bluegrass Disc Jockey’s Janice Brooks (Buss of Real Country-LIVE 365)began compiling last week a list and over the next few days others including Ben West (WMMT-FM), Rita Small (WAIF 88.3fm in Cincinnati) and Brian McNeal (Prescription Bluegrass) contributed.
Although the list is not by any means all inclusive, it is a good start and even if you don’t have bluegrass radio, you can check your own music library or You-Tube for any the following:
