Rural Rhythm recording artist Mike Scott has added several performance dates in Japan to his already busy schedule in 2013.
Recently, Scott and his band performed for a Civil War Antiques and Relics event in Pigeon Forge, TN in August in support of his new CD album “Home Sweet Home (Civil War Era Songs)” released on May 21st of this year.
Rural Rhythm Plans are in the works for many more performances at key historic Civil War sites over the next two years, throughout the remainder of the 150th year anniversary of the American Civil War.
Scott is seen by millions of people each week performing in Ronnie Reno’s band The Reno Tradition on Reno’s Old Time Music show airing on RFD-TV Saturday nights at 7 pm eastern. Scott is also the host of the television series Behind The Dream TM which airs on BlueHighways TV.
And now Scott can add music ambassador to this year’s schedule of events, as well as, his previous international tours to Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, Africa, and numerous performance tours in Israel.
In 1979, 1981, and 1983 groups of Hendersonville, Tennessee area residents visited Tsuru, Japan as members of mission teams from Bluegrass Baptist Church. Tsuru families opened their homes to these American guests and friendships were formed. After an exchange of gifts and correspondence, the two mayors—Michimasa Takabe of Tsuru and T. W. Patterson of Hendersonville—proposed that a sister city relationship be formalized.
A delegation from Tsuru visited Hendersonville and on May 18, 1983 the sister city affiliation became official. Both cities organized Tsuru-Hendersonville Friendship Committees to oversee and coordinate all ongoing activities and visits of adults and youth. Since 1983 official delegations from both cities including mayors, other government leaders, Friendship Committee leaders, host families, representatives of numerous civic groups, teachers, and other citizens have visited the other city on a mutually agreed-upon schedule.
The Japanese Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) has provided life-changing experiences for four of Hendersonville area students who visited Tsuru on exchange trips since 1998. JET enabled each of them to live and work in a culture other than their own, which in turn opened doors of opportunity for them upon their completion of the JET experience.
A delegation including 13 adults and 8 students representing four schools will go to Japan September 29 through October 7, 2013 with the primary purpose of being ambassadors for Hendersonville at the celebration of 30 years of friendship with Tsuru.
On Sunday, September 29, Scott and several other talented musicians including; Craig Duncan, Billy Smith, Marilyn Smith and Peggy Duncan from the Hendersonville, TN area will go to Japan and perform at a National Festival with the primary purpose of celebrating 30 years of friendship with Tsuru.
While in Japan Mike will be visiting with the media promoting his current Rural Rhythm titles including “Blue Moon Of Kentucky (A Tribute to Bill Monroe)” released January 11, 2011 and“Take Me Lord And Use Me” released on February 22, 2011.
