Vern and Ray fans take note! We've just heard from Laurie Lewis of a new project she's working on that will capture your interest.
Laurie says she's finishing up the mixes in the studio with Kathy Kallick and she assures us that the will have the finished CD in hand and ready to distribute by the Father's Day Grass Valley Festival.
"I'm very excited about this raw, unfiltered collection of 18 songs from the repertoires of Vern Williams and Ray Park," Laurie said.
Laurie and Kathy share a common love of the Vern and Ray style of bluegrass and refer to them as "their early bluegrass heroes."
Haven't heard of Vern & Ray?
Kathy and Laurie started thinking about recording this album in 2009, and got as far as putting together a short set for a festival.
Here's Ray Park's "How Many Times," with Laurie Lewis, Kathy Kallick, Tom Rozum, Patrick Sauber, and Dan Booth, from that 2009 Father's Day performance at Grass Valley. Laurie says, "we know how the song goes now, but I rather like the feel of this very live version."
