Foghorn Couple to Tour Australia

Image634873495332762763Starting in Mid November, The Foghorn Stringband’s Nadine Landry and Stephen “Sammy” Lind will be traveling through the Australian country for the first time, bringing their mix of Appalachian and Midwestern Old Time Fiddle music, and early Country and Cajun Music to folk clubs, house concerts, pubs and festivals.

Over 30 shows are planned throughout Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania. Alternating between fiddle, guitar, banjo, accordion, they play and sing true to the roots of American music with energy and respect.

Foghorn Stringband to release "Outshine the Sun" this Summer.

There is a ton of buzz right now about the Foghorn String Band and their new album.

After wrapping up their tour (and guest blogging all the excitement here) around the UK, Ireland and Switzerland, Foghorn is back playing festivals throughout North America with their new CD, Outshine the Sun, in hand.   And we’re told that currently that is the only way to snag a CD – from a live show – until the actual release date.

Foghorn In Ireland–Guest Blogger Post #4

Foghorn’s Nadine Landry Updates us on their Ireland/UK adventures here in Guest Blogger Post #4

Image634741726188963297Leaving Ireland was hard but we knew we had great times ahead of us! From Baltimore, we drove to Dublin, took the ferry to Holyhead in Wales, then spent the night with our good friends Jock and Vera and their lovely kids Lukas and Rosa.

Awesome meal, great sleep and ready to head to Liverpool, first stop on the UK part of the trip. Greeted by Barry Southern and family, we started off by an interview at the BBC. We played a few tunes and chatted with our host Billy.

Foghorn in Ireland–Guest Blogger Post #3

The Foghorn String Band’s Nadine Landry writes this Guest Blogger Post from Ireland. This is a post written on May 14 at the end of Fiddle Fair in Baltimore Co. Cork

Image634734411046167293Greetings from Baltimore in West Cork!

It's Monday and I'm sitting outside our house looking at the ocean with Sherkin island in the distance. Since our arrival here on Wednesday night, we have been blessed not only with gorgeous weather but with possibly the best festival to ever exist: Fiddle Fair.  Organized by Declan McCarthy and his family, the festival was celebrating its 20th anniversary and it was amazing! Caliber of musicianship and kindness was out of this world. Foghorn Stringband has played the festival a bunch of time and was actually the first place to play in Ireland back in 2003. Afternoon sessions in the square, concerts in the castle, main concerts in the marquis every night followed by very late wicked sessions till the wee hours!       [Videos below]

Foghorn In Ireland - Post #2

Image634719716704717876The Foghorn String Band, in Ireland this month, is guest blogging for us. Again, Nadine Landry writes for the group….

We sure are a lucky bunch! We get to travel and experience our favorite place: Ireland. An average day consists of driving the wee roads looking at the sheep and cattle grazing in the green (yes, green everywhere!) pastures, stopping in a pub and being served perfect pints of Guinness every time, visiting with great friends we only get to see once a year. Not to mention playing music to audiences that seem to like what we do and what we've done to their songs and tunes!

Every once in a while, just when you think nothing can get any more perfect, we get even luckier. Let us go back to Thursday night. After a great gig at the lovely Glens Centre in Manorhamilton, we walked Image634719707605199876down to Connelly's for a pint, and ended up in one of the most amazing song swap ever. Joe and Ita have owned the 150 squared foot bar for 40 years. He claimed he used to know 6000 songs, she said she can't carry a tune. But while he sang, she sang along to every song. We traded songs for hours, the few patrons joining in, a timeless session that could have happened ages ago.

Old time – fast, sharp, harsh and exciting as it should be. That’s the trio’s approach throughout – classy playing serving the songs without the flash and chrome they’re clearly capable of delivering. Jonathan Aird,  Independent
