Alison Krauss Con-Woman Arrested

Image635480122810710214Albuquerque’s KRQE Television has a bizarre news story about a con-woman posing as famed Bluegrass vocalist and fiddler Alison Krauss in order to bilk unsuspecting men of their life savings.

53-year-old Peggy Sue Evers was caught and charged in Arkansas after marrying a 75 year old Fayetteville man and then took off with $40,000 of his money.  Evers broke her $10,000 bond and went on the run. She has been recaptured in New Mexico where it was discovered that she had married another man using the same con.

Top Bluegrass News Stories of 2012

Image634925376972421484This year’s report of the most read stories on the Prescription Bluegrass Blog could almost be an exact duplicate of the story we posted last year.   If it weren’t for a slight change in the bottom five, the top ten would look identical.

The other amazing statistic that jumps out at us is our number 10 spot.  A guest-blogger article we posted just this month has racked up enough individual readers to land in the top ten in only 2 weeks.  RPR Media’s Brandy Reed’s “10 Points About Promotion” that we posted on December 12th is that story and it’s very gratifying to know that a lot of readers want that type of information.  We plan on a lot more in that category in 2013.

The story we ran on his death (Bluegrass Fiddler Kenny Baker Dies from Stroke!) came in at number six in the list.  When combined, the two stories together would have made the number two spot.

Oh, Hazel!

Apr 23, 2011

The death of songwriter, singer and voice of miners, women and the working class, Hazel Dickens on April 22 saddened us all.  Dry Branch Fire Squad Founder Ron Thomason was a friend of Hazel and allowed us to reprint his eulogy.

“…No epithets accurately describe her voice—even when used in tandem. The best that can be said is that it projected the sounds of deep pit mining itself.”  - Ron Thomason

Tumbling Bones - New Trio Releases 1st EP Today!

Tumbling Bones releases their debut record -
"Risk Not Your Soul" EP - online today.

The Tumbling Bones are purveyors of traditional American music who value, above all, grit. The twenty-somethings who make up the trio - Peter Winne, Jake Hoffman, and Sam McDougle - have been callousing their hands and pushing their vocal chords for years as they’ve toured, recorded, and breathed folk music. Their raw, though lucid, take on old American music has taken them across the world. The Tumbling Bones used to play in stringband-turned-rock outfit The Powder Kegs, and their time with that band took them from street-performing in Copenhagen and Berlin to venues along the east coast to an acclaimed 2007 performance on NPR’s “A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor” (they played on the show’s “People in Their Twenties Talent Competition” and won first prize).

Bob Everhart is the President of the National Traditional Country Music Association, a large group of upper Midwest farmers, ranchers, down home country people, and small town folks, that have a deep and abiding respect for America's great traditional country music.
