Balsam Range’s Buddy Melton Update on Farming Accident

Image634672365397158161By now, most fans of the band Balsam Range and the bluegrass community are aware that the band’s fiddler, Buddy Melton was in a serious accident yesterday.  Social Media sites were all buzzing with the news as it was posted and then continuously re-posted by almost everyone who read it.

We refrained from posting the news here or anywhere yesterday at the request of the band’s record label spokesperson who indicated the family’s desire for some privacy in a very delicate time.  Until it was clear just what Melton and his family would be dealing with in terms of recovery the label asked that we wait for their official statement.

What we did learn from yesterday’s research is that Melton was kicked in the face by a cow with which he was working.  Doctors were wary of bleeding into the brain.     Here is the official statement.   Our best wishes to Buddy and his family.

Balsam Range fiddler Buddy Melton was in a serious farming accident yesterday morning. The group posted this update on their Facebook page:
As many of you already know, our beloved Buddy Melton was severely injured in a farming accident today. Thanks to all our friends and family for the overwhelming show of support. We just want to report that Buddy is in stable condition and showing signs of improvement. We are all very hopeful that his condition will continue to improve. I spent the evening at the hospital with him, and he was in good spirits, all things considered. There are several surgeries to come within the next week. Please check our official website and facebook (sic) for updates. The Melton family, and the Balsam Range families appreciate your continued prayers and support. When asked by the head of our record label this evening what statement he would like to make to the press, Buddy replied, “One cow, free to good home.”
