Michael Cleveland Announces New Album: FIDDLER’S DREAM!

Michael Cleveland is one of bluegrass music’s great treasures: a 10-time IBMA fiddle player of the year and 2016 nominee, and 4-time Instrumental Group of the Year winner, Cleveland captured the attention of the bluegrass community as a child prodigy who performed on the Grand Ole Opry with Alison Krauss when he was only 13 years old. But he became a viral video sensation this summer with a virtuosic impromptu performance of “Jerusalem Ridge” that racked up over 6 million views in just a few days.

The two-day 44th annual Grand Master Fiddler Championship is the nation’s championship event held at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tenn. on Sept. 26 and 27, 2015.

National Fiddler Hall of Fame Inducts Several Distinguished New Members!

The National Fiddlers Hall of Fame will induct the 2015 class of inductees on May 28, 2015, 7:30pm at the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma Performing Arts Center (BAPAC). 

The induction ceremony and concert will feature performances by Tulsa’s Jana Jae, fellow inductee Jay Ungar, along with several previous inductees and area fiddle artists.

The distinguished list of 2015 inductees includes:  The “First Lady of Country Fiddle,” Jana Jae.  Jae gained fame playing fiddle tunes on a blue violin during television's long-running Hee Haw series.


The “First Lady of Country Fiddle,” Jana Jae.  It will be a night to remember as the National Fiddler Hall of Fame honors some of the most talented names in the art of Fiddle at the 2015 Induction Ceremony and Concert.

Bluegrass Pioneer Tex Logan in Poor Health - Hospitalized!

Image635636843098187121Fiddler Tex Logan who played with Bill Monroe in the 1960s has been hospitalized upon his doctors orders.

After a trip to the local Emergency Room, daughter Jodi Logan says they found too much potassium in the blood due to a kidney disease, a condition known as hyperkalemia.

Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers Celebrate 50 Years!

Image635630419970689804One of the largest active Oldtime Fiddle Music associations in the USA with over 1300 total members, the Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers Assoc. (OOTFA) has marked half a century of promoting, preserving and perpetuating the art of Old -Time Fiddling.

Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers’ are gearing up for their Annual State Convention to be held at the Polk County Fairgrounds in Rickreall Oregon.

Short Mountain Brothers Band Has Job Opening for Fiddle Player!

Image635494839723958492The fiddle is one of the key ingredients to The Short Mountain Brothers sound, without it there is a huge void.

The group, based out of West Virginia, is currently looking to add a new fiddle player - someone who is willing to travel around the east coast, has plenty of stage experience, at least 2 years of playing experience, harmony vocalist is a plus, but not a requirement, and must be willing to perform 2-3 nights a week.

Nicolayeff joins Mark O'Connor, Matthew Hartz, and Danita Rast Gardner as three-time champions. Jesse Maw of Kalispell, Montana placed second.

2014 National Champions Coming Out of Walnut Valley!

Image635470448043217987Held annually each year on the 3rd weekend in September, the Walnut Valley Festival is the home of the International Autoharp Championship, the International Fingerstyle Guitar, the National Mountain Dulcimer, the National Flat Pick Guitar Championship, the National Hammered Dulcimer Championship and the National Bluegrass Banjo Championship.

Other contests held at the Walnut Valley Festival are the National Mandolin Championship and the Walnut Valley Old Time Fiddle.

First, Tyler White just recently took the first place price in the state of Mississippi’s Fiddle Championship.  The contest was held in New Albany, MS last Saturday, May 18th.

A former “Bluegrass Boy” with Bill Monroe at age 14 before joining brother Bobby and forming the now famous Osborne Brothers act, Sonny retired from professional playing in 2005 due to a shoulder injury which impacted his ability to play up to his standards.

Fiddler’s Feast Hits The Air

Image635009998850364858A live radio version of Jay Ungar and Molly Mason’s Fiddler’s Feast is to be broadcast on radio Wednesday, April 10th at 8pm ET.

The radio version of the popular touring performance will be broadcast on WAMC Northeast Public Radio serving parts of seven northern states but anyone anywhere can listen to the online stream at WAMC.org.  The station features a variety popular online players.

On the show will also be Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas performing Scottish tunes and Dirk Powel with his deeply rooted American music.
