Cumberland River Gets More National TV Time!

Cumberland River’s Original Song, “Antietam’s Hill,” Featured on FX Network’s JUSTIFIED Season 3 Premiere January 17, 2012

Tomorrow's Season 3 premiere of the hit TV show, JUSTIFIED will feature another original song, “Antietam’s Hill," by Harlan, Kentucky band, Cumberland River.  

The song was written by Cumberland River band members: Dustin Middleton, who also provides lead vocals; along with Jamie Dean, Jamie Stewartand Jamie Dean’s brother, Mickey Dean. 

This Civil War themed tune appears on the band’s current album, THE LIFE WE LIVE on Rural Rhythm Records (lyrics shown below.) 

The FX Network’s official website for JUSTIFIED includes a handy Episode Music Guide where fans can learn which songs were used in specific episodes. 

Included in this guide are five songs from Cumberland River featured in Season 2:  Episode 204 -“For Blood or Money” featured an instrumental version of the band’s original song, “Justified;” and Episode 209 - “Brother’s Keeper” featured four songs: “Ridge Runner,” “Wild Berries,” “My Dad,” and “Kentucky Mountain Home.”

New Song from Laurie Lewis Praises River Guides!

Laurie Lewis, a long time advocate of river rafting has found another way to combine her love of bluegrass and the water sport.  In a cleverly crafted Tongue-In-Cheek song posted on You Tube, Laurie pays homage to the many guides she’s encountered over the years.

We asked her for some comments and she sent this reply:

“I think it just came to me after falling in love with river guides of all stripe for years on river trips. They are the ones who feed you, sometimes clothe you, carry you safely down crazy rapids, tell you river lore, and generally are in great shape and lovely to look at, to boot. What's not to love?”

Laurie told her fans about the video in her monthly newsletter saying it was a “tender love ballad” for the many guides and to accompany the numerous photos she’s collected from her many river trips.  She also asked fans to let her know if she should “Take it down immediately”.     We’ll answer that Laurie – NO!…matter of fact….write some more and post them as well.    Thanks for a lighter moment and a few chuckles.

YouTube Legal Settlement May Mean $$$ for Songwriters & Publishers!

YouTube this week announced that it has reached a settlement with a group of music publishers in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed in 2007.
According to the Google-owned video-sharing site, the U.S. National Music Publishers Association (NMPA), its subsidiary Harry Fox Agency (HFA) and music publishers affiliated with HFA will be able to license the musical compositions they represent for use by the YouTube community and receive royalties from YouTube for musical works in videos posted on the site.
