Songwriters Donna Ulisse & Jerry Salley recently had the opportunity to thank bluegrass legend Del McCoury in person for recording their song "Butler Brothers" on the new Del McCoury Band album The Streets of Baltimore.
The song is a tragic and chilling story of two brothers fighting on different sides in the Civil War.

The album was produced by bluegrass’ award-winning songwriter and producer, Laurie Lewis who says, “Mel and Jake, (are) two excellent Bay Area musicians who are currently making a splash nationally, both as a duo and with their band, Front Country.”

Mark Bumgarner will be a featured showcase artist and workshop host at The North Carolina Bluegrass Pavilion, Music from The Mountains to The Coast, at IBMA’s World of Bluegrass 2013.
Mark, along with Milan Miller (2012 & 2013 IBMA song of the year nominee), will host a workshop on Thursday September 26th at 2:00 pm on “Co-Writing”.
Longtime California-based songwriter and bandleader Kathy Kallick, award-winning young songwriter Kelsi Harrigill with the new band Flatt Lonesome; and Wayne Taylor, the band leader of Appaloosa, will co-host the IBMA Songwriter Showcase at World of Bluegrass, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26 from 1-2 p.m.at the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh, N.C.

1st Place- John Cloyd Miller (Asheville, N.C.) - "Cloud of Dust"
2nd Place- Todd Grebe (Nashville, Tenn.) - "Master of My Destiny"
3rd Place- Aaron Burdett (Saluda, N.C.) - "Magpie"
Lorraine Jordan has been named a finalist in the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest and will perform at MerleFest 2013 at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 26, at Wilkes Community College.

Hall featured recent chart-toppers The Avett Brothers, who took the stage to deliver “That's How I Got To Memphis”; bluegrass power duo Dailey & Vincent, who performed “Can You Hear Me Now”; prodigal son Justin Townes Earle, who sang ‘Homecoming”; and superstar Toby Keith who sang “Faster Horses (The Cowboy And The Poet)” accompanied by Scotty Emerick.

In her newsletter to fans, Donna Ulisse dropped more than just a few hints of a new Christmas album to be released this fall.
“All The Way To Bethlehem” will be the title and is to feature duet’s with her husband Rick Stanley. Donna says the photo shoot has been completed and they hope to have the cover artwork to show soon.
She is also working on a songbook to accompany the CD and says it’s new territory for her so she’s enlisted the help of Kerry Chater and Lynn Gillespie Chater to help with lead sheets.

The IBMA says their Songwriter Showcase is not a contest however there are clear winners and non-winners. From all of the entries submitted, an IBMA Panel will select only 10 to be presented and showcased.
According to the IBMA, the purpose of the showcase is to present new, original bluegrass songs to artists, producers and labels looking for new material, as well as to other industry reps in the audience. Both veteran and novice songwriters are invited and encouraged to submit songs.
