Wandering To Be Found  is the new “Mini” CD from Anne and Pete Sibley. 

According to a note the couple sent, “…Anne held a vision of recording some of our new tunes while we were within driving distance of Ben Winship's Henhouse Studio in Victor, ID.  Before we knew it, we had a soundtrack of six songs offering a musical version of our past year's journey across and around the country: 30 states, 2 children, 2 instruments and countless open arms!”  The brand new mini-album includes 6 original songs.

Americana Festival Announces Schedule

Building on last year’s increase in attendance the Americana Music Association is making this 10th anniversary of the yearly event the best yet.

This year’s tribute showcase performance will honor the recently deceased pioneer of the genre, Levon Helm. The winner of the 2010 and 2012′s Best Americana Album GRAMMY Helm will be honored by an as-yet unannounced bill in a performance titled “This Wheel’s on Fire: A Tribute to Levon Helm.”

Pa’s Fiddle On PBS this Month! The Music of Laura Ingles Wilder!

In January 2012, some of country music’s biggest stars gathered to bring the traditional American folk songs written about by Laura Ingalls Wilder in her internationally best-selling series Little House on the Prairie to life. For the first time in concert, this music was performed in front of a rapt, intimate audience at the Loveless Barn in Nashville and filmed for broadcast. Flagstaff’s Pickin’ In The Pines Offers Early Bird Ticket Prices for Weekend Passes.

One this festival’s claims to fame is that they launched their first festival seven years ago with a stellar lineup for a first-time festival and everyone said it would be hard to beat in years to come.  But year after year Flagstaff’s Pickin’ In the Pines Bluegrass and Acoustic Music Festival presented by the Flagstaff Friends of Traditional Music manages to out-do themselves and their previous lineups of top-notch talent. Tony Rice makes guest appearance on new single by Brandon Lee Adams

Brandon Lee Adams sent us a note last week announcing the new single, saying; “I have a new single out now called ‘I Long for Seventeen.’ it was recorded live with me and my friend and hero Tony Rice. It has been mixed and mastered. Just two guitars and my vocal.

It’s been done before – adding a little “star power” to your recording so as to use the star’s name recognition and reputation to garner some notice from the industry and the public for one’s own work. 

Country Music’s Suzy Bogguss did it with her first LP when she asked renowned fiddler Vassar Clements to play on it.  The Grascals asked Dolly Parton to sing on their first CD.  It’s a proven winner formula for success if the first artist has their own talent and uniqueness.  It’s  a kind of jump-start into the business.

We first heard of Brandon Lee Adams after the release of his first CD “Hardest Kind Of Memories” over a year ago and since that time he’s managed to gain some high-powered notoriety  on his own.  He was included on the IBMA award winning album “Celebration of Life” for Skaggs Family Records and his album was featured in the March/April issues of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine.

Join Belmont University instructor/ former longtime ASCAP executive Dan Keen Thursday, Feb. 16 at 6-7:30 p.m. Central for the next IBMA webinar: “DIY Song Publishing.”

Participants will explore the basics of registering songs with the U.S. Copyright office and with a PRO, issuing a mechanical license, applying to PROs for live gig funds and more.

The specifics of acquiring a mechanical license to cover someone else’s song will also be discussed.

The webinar will be aimed at songwriters and new publishers, but artists, record label reps or anyone interested in the business of songwriting is welcome.

Bluegrass & Americana Music Friends,

We are still struggling tremendously to keep Song of the Mountains funded and on the air on public television. I am disappointed in the response to our pleas presented to our fan base up to this point for help with donations. Everywhere I go people tell me how much they look forward to seeing SOTM on television each week. When I tell them we need financial support and even a small donation will add up to help if enough fans in bluegrass and old time music will step up and help us then this would be our salvation to our funding problems.

Our potential reach across America in 146 million people per year. We have a quality bluegrass and Americana program that serves our fan base like no other....ever. I know our bluegrass fans and family love our show but if they continue to sit on their hands and do nothing we have no choice but to end production.

Sugar Hill Records Sells Music Catalogue!

US independent publisher Bug Music has acquired the rights to Sugar Hill Records’ publishing catalogue.

In a deal that covers 600 songs, from the worlds of Bluegrass,  Americana and Country Music, Sugar Hill Records has sold their music catalogue to Bug Music, an independent United States company.

The sale includes rosters at Sugar Hill Records’ two publishing companies, Southern Melody Publishing Co. and Queen's Counsel Music, the companies that published music by; Nickel Creek members Chris Thile, Sarah and Sean Watkins, Robin and Linda Williams, Ralph Stanley and Etta Baker.


Bug Music has been publishing music since 1975

“Sugar Hill’s Southern Melody Publishing Co. and Queen’s Counsel Music developed a rich catalogue of American roots music,” said Bug Music SVP Garry Velletri.
